Calhoun Cemetery AKA Sutter Cem. AKA Number Nine Cem.

This cemetery is located 4 miles southwest of Shady Point in the Calhoun area. Sec. 12, T7N, R24E. This cemetery was known as the Sutter Cemetery until 1914. The name of the town was changed from Sutter to Calhoun at that time. This cemetery is sometimes referred to as the Number Nine Cemetery because it is located close to the old Number Nine Mine. About 1918, eleven miner were killed in a mine explosion. Some of them are buried in this cemetery. The cemetery is in two parts; the white side and the colored side. Most of the graves are unmarked. The information on some of these unmarked graves was obtained from old funeral home records.
